Arkansas Bloggers: Tag, You're It

I was tagged by Debbie at Arkansas Bloggers to do a getting to know you post right before I entered into MOMcation-crazy land.  So, now I’m back, and here’s my post:

1. Started your own blog
Well, here you are, on my own blog.  I also have a “family” blog over at http://4rechs.wordpress.com

2. Slept under the stars
Lots of times.  I grew up in the country.  Generally instead of sleep-overs, I had camping parties as a kid.

3. Played in a band
Does middle school band class count?  Even if I continually sat last chair?

4. Visited Hawaii
Yes, twice.  The first time it rained the entire time we were there.  The second time was wonderful.

5. Watched a meteor shower
Yes.  I have a little bit of ADHD though, so I don’t generally last very long with that sort of thing.

6. Given more than you can afford to charity
We’re paying two mortgages right now, so I have to be very careful with our money.  We give what we can to the things we think are important, and we spend a lot of time trying to make the world a better place.

7. Been to Disney
Hubby has friends who work for Disney – sweet!  We also just completed a 4 day Disney Cruise at the beginning of this year.  LOVED it.

8. Climbed a mountain
No.  I break out in hives when I’m cold, so I generally avoid areas where there might be snow and no where to get warm.

9. Held a praying mantis
Yes, as a former museum educator (and hick from the sticks), I’ve held many a creepy-crawly.

10. Sang a solo
Only when I’m alone.

11. Bungee jumped
Yes.  In Vegas.  I much prefer sky diving.

12. Visited Paris
Nope.

13. Watched a thunder and lightning storm
I lived on the 16th floor of  the only building over 8 floors tall in college – loved watching the storms roll in.

14. Taught yourself an art from scratch
Hmmm…not unless you count parenting as an art.  My mom is an excellent mother, but I forgot to take notes.

15. Adopted a child
No, but we may in the future.

16. Had food poisoning
Not recently enough to recall it.  I have a pretty steely stomach as far as eating things go.  I once won a contest for eating the most silk worm crysalyses.

17. Walked to the top of the Statue of Liberty
No. Been to the top of the Empire State building though.

18. Grown your own vegetables
Doing that for the first time this summer.

19. Seen the Mona Lisa in France
No.  I haven’t seen her anywhere else, either.

20. Slept on an overnight train
No.  I did take Amtrak from St. Louis to Chicago in the 8th grade.

21. Had a pillow fight
I have two younger siblings.  I’ve been assulted by pillows.

22. Hitch hiked
No, but sometimes I wish I was a man, or carried a gun, or knew Karate so I could “safely” pick up a hitch hiker.

23. Taken a sick day when you’re not ill
I’m a stay at home mom.  I don’t even get to take a sick day when I’m sick.

24. Built a snow fort
Again, the hives.

25. Held a lamb
No, but I’ve been butted by a goat.  Is that close?

26. Gone skinny dipping
I haven’t.  No lie.  I glow in the dark, so it’s extra dangerous for me.

27. Run a marathon
No, but I was a runner in high school (state champ in the 800m!) and before I had kids I did sprint triathalons.  I’m hoping to squeeze one in this summer.

28. Ridden in a gondola in Venice
I saw people riding in gondolas in the Venitian in Vegas.  Exactly the same, I know.

29. Seen a total eclipse
I don’t think so.

Absolutely.  More sunrises than I want, since becoming a mom.

31. Hit a home run
Nope.

32. Been on a cruise
Disney and Royal Carribean Bahamas cruises.

33. Seen Niagara Falls in person
No, but I’ve caught puke in my hands that kind of reminded me of Niagara.

34. Visited the birthplace of your ancestors
I’m an un-traced mutt, so, maybe?

35. Seen an Amish community
No.  I’ve seen Mennonites, who look like Amish, at Home Depot getting consultations via cell phone on which patio furniture to buy.  That cracked me up until I learned the difference between Mennonite and Amish.

36. Taught yourself a new language
Not unless you count “toddler” as a language.

37. Had enough money to be truly satisfied
If it weren’t for that second mortgage…

38. Seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa in person
Obviously whoever put this survey together has traveled to Europe way more than I have…

Yes – both indoors and out.  I actually own a pair of climbing shoes and a harness, which I use about once every three years.

40. Seen Michelangelo’s David in person
NO.  I see Rebecca’s David in person at least once a week, though.

41. Sung karaoke
I missed my chance at MOMcation last weekend – I didn’t think a sore throat added to my lack of singing abilities would win me any friends.

42. Seen Old Faithful erupt
I’ve seen Young Carina (my three year old) erupt.

43. Bought a stranger a meal at a restaurant

No, but that would be fun.  I think I’ll do that soon.

Nope.

45. Walked on a beach by moonlight
Yes.

46. Been transported in an ambulance
Nope.

47. Had your portrait painted
No, but I was just thinking that I’d like to have one done of my mom.

48. Gone deep sea fishing

I get sea sick, so I think I’ll stick with shallow sea fishing.

49. Seen the Sistine Chapel in person
No, but I’ve seen the oldest church in New Zealand.  It was gorgeous, too.

50. Been to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris
See Number 12

51. Gone scuba diving or snorkeling
Yes.  Last dive was in New Zealand, I think.  Last fun dive was in Belize.

52. Kissed in the rain
Probably, but I don’t remember.  I’m not much of a romantic, unfortunately.

53. Played in the mud
I’m a little too type-a for that.

54. Gone to a drive-in theater
Yes.  It’s been about 6 years though.

55. Been in a movie
Nope.  I’m on the news pretty often, though.

56. Visited the Great Wall of China
Someday when the kids are old enough that we don’t have to carry them.

Not yet…

58. Taken a martial arts class
I don’t think they offered that in 4-H

59. Visited Russia
Again, the hives!

60. Served at a soup kitchen
No, but I should.

61. Sold Girl Scout Cookies
I sold enough girl scout cookies to earn a sewing kit that i was very excited about. Then we moved and I never got it. The entire experience has scarred me, obviously.

62. Gone whale watching
Yes, I supplied the “chum” due to sea sickness.

63. Got flowers for no reason
Yes, but it’s been a LOOONNNGGG time.

67. Bounced a check
In a former life…

68. Flown in a helicopter
No.

69. Saved a favorite childhood toy
I’m pretty sure my two younger siblings obliterated all my belongings.  I’m not really a materialistic type anyway.  I love to PURGE!

70. Visited the Lincoln Memorial
Yes.  We need to take the kids back.  I know they would be impressed.

71. Eaten caviar
I’m cheap, so I’m of the opinion that nothing can taste that good.

72. Pieced a quilt
No.  Not too great with sewing, except for cross stitch.

73. Stood in Times Square
Yes.  The first trip that my husband and I ever took together was to NYC.  He brought me from the airport up out of the subway right in to Times Square.

74. Toured the Everglades
No, and I guess if I want to, I should hurry before they dissappear or get doused in oil.

75. Been fired from a job (only if being laid off counts?)

No.  I’m good at everything that I do.

76. Seen the Changing of the Guards in London

84. Had your picture in the newspaper
Once I had my picture on the front page of my home town newspaper in two different stories.

  1. Fawn's Husband says:

I just learned a few things about my wife. It looks like I need to send her flowers for no reason while heading to Paris to visit the Eiffel Tower via a gondola in Venice after stopping by the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Or, we could check off two items by skinny dipping in the Great Salt Lake. Then again – there is the ‘shrivel like a slug’factor… which is more of an issue for guys.

Holy Moly Frijoles! That’s a loooong list! I can’t believe you won’t do anything in the cold. You seem like such an adventurous soul this surprises me.

  3. Fawn says:

admittedly, when it comes to the cold, I’m a bit of a wuss.
