Duck Duck Goose Consignment – Not Just for Babies!

When you think of consignment sales, you probably think of tons of clothing racks, lots of plastic toys, and mountains of baby gear.  But, there are some other great things to be found!  Yesterday I shopped the pre-sale at Duck Duck Goose and came home with some treasures, so I thought I would share some of the deals I found in the not-so-typical departments of the sale.

I went to the carseats first. There was a whole corner full of carseats and combo strollers. Duck Duck Goose checks carseats carefully to make sure they have not been damaged and that they are less than 5 years old. Carina just hit 40 pounds, so she’s too big for three of our four car seats.  I found this “big kid” seat and snagged it.  It looks brand new, was in its plastic carrying case, and had the owners manual with it.  It was $9.00!!  Retail is $54.00.

Next I headed over to the gargantuan, somewhat overwhelming room of toys.  I went to the puzzles, where I snagged two wodden Melissa and Doug puzzles for Callen for $8.00, plus a Melissa and Doug Magnetic Chore Chart of $7.50. We’re using the ABC puzzle now, and the other two will be Christmas presents.  (I know, just what every kid wants from Santa – a Chore Chart.  At least it will be Santa’s fault that we have to do our chores and not mine.)

I also snagged these Brain Quest decks for $7.00 in the curriculum section of the sale.  Retail on these is $14 each, so $28 total – a pretty nice deal.  Both the kids like to play these, and they’re great for in the car.

Next, I wandered over to the costume racks (I think there were at least 6 racks of costumes!).  We already have our costumes for Halloween, but we LOVE to play dress up.  Callen has recently discovered Spider Man, so I was hoping to find a Spidey in his size. Carina loves to dress up like the Disney princesses, but I refuse to pay the $40-$80 that the costumes cost at the Disney Store.  So, Here’s what I found:

Spider Man - $5 Princesses - $7 each

And finally, I cruised through the ladies clothing.  Yes, indeed.  There are racks and racks of women’s clothing.  Not maternity, not juniors.  Women’s clothing.  I also noticed a stand full of purses, including several Vera Bradley bags. I got this whole outfit for $9.00.  I really have to be in the mood to shop for clothes for me, which makes it hard to find things I like.  So this is a super-hooray bargain!

I spent $104 total at Duck Duck Goose.  In addition to my treasures above, I did also buy some clothes and shoes for the kids (but NO BABY GEAR!). The big bonus is that I also consigned items in this sale, so by the end of the day, I had sold nearly as much as I spent at the sale, making the deals that much sweeter!

Even if your kids don’t need any toys or clothes (and even if you don’t have kids!), I would still recommend checking out the sale – there are bargains for everyone!  There are a record number of consigners and inventory at this sale, so there are plenty of deals to go around. The sale is open at 7am today, Friday, and Saturday. (Saturday is half price day!)  Tonight the sale is open late to accommodate working mamas until 9pm.  There’s also a special event this evening just for pre-teens and teens starting at 4pm.

If you can’t fit this week’s sale into your schedule, Duck Duck Goose will have sales in Jacksonville, Hot Springs and Conway this fall that you can learn more about here.

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this blog post.  However, in the process of loading my treasures into my truck, I managed to lock my keys inside.  Duck Duck Goose Sale owner Cindy Brantley, who started the sale 18 years ago in her garage, took the time out of her incredibly busy day to help me by calling roadside assistance and coming out to the parking lot to make sure they got my truck open for me.  That, folks, is WAY above and beyond the call of duty, and I am extremely thankful for her help!  How’s that for customer service!!?
