There's a Word for That: Wayfinding
As a trained technical writer and a former museum employee, wayfinding signs (signs used to tell people where to go) intrigue me. I recently came across this one and had to wonder what the designer was thinking when they put it together.
So, this week I’d love to hear your thoughts on this sign. Is there a word for that? You might have to use more than one word, but leave a comment with what you think this sign is trying to tell us.

I honestly don’t get it. It seems like there are four people becoming 5? That doesn’t make sense. Weird sign. Where did you see it?
Hee hee. This is a big hint to the purpose of the sign – I saw it on a cruise ship.
Are you pregnant? That’s my comment.
No, Why? Does this blog make me look fat? HaHa. Hilary, I actually can see where you are going with it, but the purpose of this sign is not to tell people that I’m expecting a third child (or that they should run toward me when that third child arrives…).
Is it like a “stand here, really tight together” type of sign?
How about that is a meeting place if you lose a kid. Or, in my case, you come on the ship only looking like one person, but after the buffets, I gained an extra person.
I think it looks like a meeting place or arendezvous (how’s that for a word haha!) because it shows arrows with people heading towards another group of people.
It looks like a gathering spot or safe haven for people coming from various points or places to collect in one location, perhaps for fire or emergency gatherings ?
All roads lead to Rome?
Everybody in the family meet here.
I’m going to go with the family meeting place. But the thought of stowaways or trafficking (yikes!) also came to mind.
