Free Fun for Families: Oct 9-15

As a frugal family of four, we love free events with a focus on fun.  I thought I’d share some of what’s available in Central Arkansas this week. Amidst Motorcycles, Trains, and Robots, there are lots of ways to celebrate Fall!

Sunday October 9 – Fall Color Hike @ Pinnacle Mountain State Park

Sunday October 9 – ROAR into Toad Suck @ Simon Park (Conway) 8:00am
This family-friendly motorcycle rally will include live music, vendors, food, bike shows, a poker run, two biker parades, a classic car show, biker church on Sunday and more.

Tuesday October 11 – Tales of the Crypt @ Mount Holly Cemetery 5:30pm – 8:30pm
The Parkview Arts Science Magnet High School acting classes and the Parkview Jazz Ensemble present this annual visit with famous Arkansans interred in the historic Mount Holly Cemetery. Candlelight tours begin every five minutes from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately one hour. Event is FREE, but donations are accepted. For info: 447-2300.

Thursday October 13 – Live @ Laman  7:00pm
An evening of musical fun featuring the band  Runaway Planet  Feel free to bring a blanket and snacks. (The event is outside in nice weather and inside when it’s too cold!)

Friday-Saturday October 14-15 – Robotics Demonstrations @ The Clinton Center 10:00am – 2:00pm
In partnership with the Science and Technology Group and FIRST® LEGO® League, the Clinton Center will showcase LEGO® MINDSTORMS Robotics. Arkansas FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) teams will present their robotic designs and demonstrate their problem solving skills, creative thinking and teamwork. The demonstrations are free and open to the public. Demonstrations will be held every hour.

Saturday October 15 – Central Arkansas Model RR Club Open House @ McGEE Center (Conway) 9:00am – 3:00pm
Various Model Railroaders will be setting up layouts in various scales and running model trains.

Saturday October 15 – Beebe Fall Festival
Vendors, food, children’s court, antique car show, and live entertainment.

Saturday October 15 – Fall Festival @ The Promenade at Chenal 1:00pm – 5:00pm
The Toys for Tots Foundation – North Little Rock will kick off a Holiday Toy Drive during this event.  Drop off a toy for a special child. Enjoy inflatables, tethered hot air balloons, music, games and prizes. For info: 821-5552.

Saturday October 15 – HarvestFest in Hillcrest 11:00am – 10:00pm
This event on Kavanaugh Blvd. will include live music, a fashion show, an antique car show, a pancake breakfast, vendors, a cheesedip contest and a 5K race.

Friday October 21 – Cruisin in the Rock @ River Market Pavillions 6pm-9pm
See the coolest cars in Arkansas at “Cruisin’ in the Rock.” These monthly cruise-ins feature muscle cars, street rods, classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles from across Central Arkansas. Participants and spectators will enjoy great classic rock n’ roll music, have a chance to win prizes, and reminisce over these awesome vehicles!
