Did Your Groupon Expire?
April 3rd, 2012 | Add a Comment
We’ve all done it. You bought that awesome daily deal voucher, you completely forgot you had it, and now, six months later, it’s expired. Money down the drain?
Not Necessarily.
First, if your voucher is to a web-based company, try contacting their customer service and asking for an extension. I’ve done this not only with Groupons, but also Living Social and several other types of daily deal vouchers, and I’ve never been told no.
If your voucher is to a local business, you might not be as successful, but it won’t hurt to call and ask.
Worst case scenario, your Groupon, in most cases, is still worth the amount you paid for it with the merchant. So, if you pay $10 for a $20 voucher to your fave pizza place and it expires, it’s still worth $10.
If the merchant won’t take the Groupon at the paid-for value, call Groupon’s customer support (888-375-5777) and let them know. They’ll credit your Groupon account with the amount you paid for each voucher that a merchant won’t take.
And thus begins the cycle again, as you can use your new credit to buy another Groupon that you’ll forget about until after it expires….
Please note that the paid-for value policy is only for Groupon vouchers. I haven’t seen any other companies that have this policy so far.
