July Gone By
It’s July 27th. The Windows are open, and it’s a balmy 70 degrees outside. This summer has been unique. In terms of weather. In terms of mindset. In terms of activities and to-dos. In terms of life. I read a lot of reminiscent stories that start with, “We used to spend summers…” I’m not sure my kids will ever say that. I’m not sure that I’d want them to. Seems every summer brings a twist in the tale for us.
So, July is nearly gone, and the fully-flexible days of summer with it. Here in Missouri, school starts back in a mere three weeks, although summer weather may stick around for another month or so after that. Or not, since Summer started this year with an all day snow storm on May 3 and has sported record breaking low temps and rainfall sporadically through June and July.
I’ve not done a lot of the things I had planned for this season, but we have done so much.
Clockwise, from upper right: Lake Weekend; Making Mommy’s Birthday Cake; Treetop Ropes Course with My Mom; The Zoo; Fireworks at the Field; Space Art at The Library Center; Picking Strawberries; Backyard Mud Fight; (C) First Day of Summer School!
We will certainly make the most of these remaining three weeks, but now that summer is winding down, I’m surprised to find that I am ready to get back to a set schedule and school year activities. I think that this summer is one that my kiddos will remember happily (if they remember it at all). It’s been one like no other. I hope next summer is exactly the same.
