I’m Turning 40 and I Need Your Help!
No, it’s not a fundraiser, and I’m not looking for miracle eye cream.
In a couple weeks I’ll hit the big 4-0. The top of “The Hill”, the new 30, official middle age, whatever you want to call it. Do I feel 40 years old? Definitely not. At least not most days. But, here I am. Age is just a number, but society says this number, 40, is more significant. So, I’ve been thinking about it more than I normally think about my birthday, and I’ve decided that if it’s going to be significant, I want it to be for positive reasons!
In an effort to make this year of 40 positively significant, maybe even epic, I’ve come up with an idea, and I need help from my friends! I pretty much swiped this idea from my teacher friend who introduced the Read, Right, Run program to me. The base concept is that you read 26 books, do 26 good things (“rights”) and run 26 miles to complete a marathon (not all at once). I’m adapting this program like this:
Read, Right, Rad
Read 40 Books – I love to read, but these days I listen to most of what I “read” through Audible. So, this might be the hardest of my three goal categories, but I’m going to try to read/listen to 40 books this year. If you are a reader and have a most favorite book ever that you could recommend to me, that would be awesome. I love reading books that my friends have read, and then we can discuss! You can find me on Goodreads here.
Do 40 Rights – I would love your suggestions here, too. My goal is to have a wide variety of actions, ranging from small random acts of kindness to helping a friend, to volunteering and donating to causes. I plan to blog about my progress on this project, so I would love to be able to share ideas that other people can also do or replicate. Again, send me your ideas, or maybe there’s something I could help YOU with?
Enjoy 40 Rad Experiences – Basically I’m talking about adventures here, but I was trying to stick with the alliteration of the R theme. I will probably run 40 miles this year anyway, so that didn’t seem like much of a challenge. I love adventures, both the traditional type and anything else that is a new or exciting/enjoyable experience. So, give me your ideas. It can be a place to visit (although I can’t break the bank with this), a food to try, or something to do. And, if you’re up to trying out a Rad Experience with me, I would love that too! I have been reading/thinking a lot about the importance of human connection, and I need to strengthen that area of my life. Let’s go wakeboarding, or hiking, or snowshoeing, or goat yogaing!
So please, leave your comments below, as I’m beginning to compile my lists. Thanks in advance for helping me with this project!
