It’s Spring. Time to make the Veggies!

It’s Spring. Time to make the Veggies!

Although temps have gotten down right chilly over the past few days, there are still plenty of signs that Spring is in full swing right outside our window. Craig and the kids get all the credit for our front flower bed.  Meanwhile, mother nature has been at work too.  The trees are budding and blooming, the birds are singing, and the rains are keeping the creek babbling happily.  The woods behind the house are turning green … Read entire article »

Buying a Cow (or part of one)

Buying a Cow (or part of one)

In February we are enjoying our One Small Change at dinner time, mostly. In January we purchased an eighth of a “locally grown” cow.  Actually, the cow came from Southwest Missouri, just like our locally grown veggies.  Funnily ironic.  Anyhow, I was very excited when our friends Ashlee & Rodney offered us the opportunity to get a portion of a cow from their family’s cow.  At first, I was concerned about how much space that much … Read entire article »

Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent

The One Small Change initiative is starting back up again.  I’m very excited about this, as I’ve fallen off the horse a bit, and this will motivate me to get back to doing something “green” each month.  I’m hoping to do a post to recap the “One Small Changes” we made in 2010, but in case I don’t get it done, here’s a link to all of the One Small Change Posts. Reusable Shopping Bags.  One of the hottest things going, for sure.  It makes me so happy to see more and more shoppers toting them into Kroger every time I go.  Sure, getting in the habit of using the bags takes some practice and has some hazards, as Karen from Big Green Head points out in this blog post, but it’s worth it. In addition to saving resources, using reusable bags has it’s rewards.  As I mentioned in my post about ways to save at the grocery store, you’ll get a 3 to 5 cent credit per bag at the register, depending on the store. Reusable bags hold more groceries than traditional paper or plastic, which means fewer trips between the car and the house when you get home! While we’re talking about … Read entire article »

And the Winner is…

The winner of the Eco Fab giveaway is Meredith!  Congrats, Meredith, you’ve won a trio of limited edition Cynergreen reusable bottles, and three straw lids! The winner was determined by moving all the entries, based on how many of the three entry methods each commenter did, onto a spreadsheet (a total of 32 entries). Then, I used random.org to generate a number to correspond to the spreadsheet row containing the winner’s name. Here it is: Coincidentally, this is my 100th post on this blog.  Yea! for me, and Thanks to all of you for reading along.  I suppose my 100th post could have contained some sort of deep reflection on my self and my blog, but I think it’s fitting to be giving away green stuff in celebration. Here’s to more fun … Read entire article »
