Building a Back to School Teacher basket at #MurphyUSA
Murphy USA is an oil company based of El Dorado, AR. When we first moved here, Craig shared with me what he had learned about the company – they provide college scholarships for every child that graduates from El Dorado High School. This in itself is pretty impressive, but then when I attended the Arkansas Women Bloggers Unplugged conference in June, I met Brittney Burroughs, who works in PR for Murphy USA. Murphy was a sponsor for the conference, so Brittney had the chance to share some of the programs that the company offers. As a “crunchy, cloth diapering, tree-hugger”, you’ll not normally find me getting excited over an oil company. However, when Brittney told us about the many ways that Murphy USA is supporting their community, and about some of … Read entire article »

Healthy Happy Meals
McDonalds recently announced that they will be taking steps to make their Happy Meals healthier. They are reducing the fry portion size and adding apple slices to all Happy Meals. Does this mean lunch at Ronald’s is a nutritionally sound choice? I’m going to vote NO. On the other hand, I make the healthiest happy meals around. See? Don’t these lunches look happy? They make my kids happy too. I started making “happy meals” as a way … Read entire article »

10 Things Mothering a Son has Taught Me
Sons are very different from daughters. Sometimes it’s a good thing and sometimes it’s a bad thing, but for some reason it seems to always take me by surprise. Here are a few things I’ve learned from my son (who is three). 1. In the first four months of your son’s life, the chance of getting peed on while changing a diaper is 99%. The other one percent accounts for bad aim and/or quick reflexes, should … Read entire article »

Not Having Enough Diapers Stinks
If you’re a parent, you know how crucial it is to have enough diapers to keep your infant/toddler clean and dry. Imagine if you didn’t have enough diapers and couldn’t afford to buy more? In March I wrote an article about the need for diapers in Arkansas for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Excerpts from that article are below. This is something that should hit home for all of us, as this need affects families as a whole. Please think about what you can do to help. In Arkansas, a child is born into poverty every 47 minutes, according to the Children’s Defense Fund. Knowing this, it’s no surprise that one in three American mothers struggle to provide their baby with diapers. In fact, a 2010 study found that one in twenty of … Read entire article »
