There's a Word for That: Twingle
It’s been a while since we’ve done an “interactive” TWT, so here we go. I made up a word today: Twingle. Not like that time when I thought I made up the word momcation only to find out a year later that it is being used all over the place by moms with wanderlust. No, this time, I really did make up a word. Now, twingle is a homograph (remember that from last week’s TWT post?), so if you do a search online for “twingle” you’ll get results, but that twingle has a different definition. No, this twingle is all mine. My very own word. I’m twingle’s mama. So, now the interactive part: What is the definition of twingle? (not that other twingle. MY twingle.) Leave a comment with what you think … Read entire article »

TV-free Tuesdays
Our July One Small Change is probably the scariest one of the year: TV-free Tuesdays. In the way of Meatless Mondays, this change is meant to decrease consumption of energy, but it also serves another, possibly more important, purpose. Before I had kids, I had proposed to Craig that we get rid of our TV all together, or at least get rid of our cable service. I had full intentions of not letting our children watch … Read entire article »

5 Things I Like
Here are some things that I have been impressed with as of late: Book: The Green Parent by Jenn Savedge – I have given a couple presentations on “going green” this year, and in the process of doing research, I’ve decided that this is my favorite greening guide book. Not to say that I’ve read all of them, but this one is great. It’s straight-forward, easy to understand, broken up into easily digested sections, and most … Read entire article »

Triathlon Training Tool: Go! Running
As you might recall, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to complete a triathlon this summer. I’ve begun training, and have a couple potential races picked out, but I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by the presence of a triathlete “community” in Arkansas. Luckily, I have found one great resource: Go! Running, a new local running store here in Little Rock. I was surprised when I stopped in at Go! Running several weeks ago for a look-around. I found one corner of the store stocked with triathlon apparel, and tri racing shoes winked at me from the middle of the well-stocked shoe wall. Turns out that the owners, Gary and Erin Taylor, are both phenomenal runners who ran at the collegiate level for University of Arkansas. Gary is a certified USA Triathlon … Read entire article »

Time to Kick the Can?
Yesterday, my friend Nicole sent me an email asking if I knew that most aluminum cans used to store food have linings that contain BPA, a chemical that’s been linked with cancer and other health problems. I responded that I did know, and then started to feel guilty that I knew and didn’t tell her. On the one hand, the studies on BPA are somewhat controversial – some say BPA isn’t harmful at all – … Read entire article »

Check One Off the List
A while back I posted a 100 question long “interview” here on the blog. Hubby took particular interest in a few of the questions, including this one: 63. Got flowers for no reason Yes, but it’s been a LOOONNNGGG time. Because on Tuesday, these arrived: Thanks, Honey. It truly is the little things that matter, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness. And just so you know, I’m not holding my breath on the skinny dipping in Great Salt lake idea from questions #26 and #96. As an aside, when the flower delivery man arrived, the kids excitedly answered the door with me, ogling at the delivery guy and oohhing and ahhing over the flowers. I closed the front door, and said, “Come on, kids! Let’s see who sent Mommy flowers.” Carina pondered for only a second before … Read entire article »
