100 Days of Summertime {giveaway}
Tomorrow is the big day for us – the kids’ last day of school. Sort of. Because they’ve both opted to go to summer school, which starts on Wednesday. And I’m having mixed feelings about that, because on the one hand I’m glad that they love school and that my schedule will be free to help with the new business if needed, but on the other hand, it’s a whole month of summer that kind … Read entire article »

I am a Kung Fu Master & Other Things to Avoid Saying When Applying for a Job
Today’s guest blogger is Sarah from East 9th Street. She’s a full time working mama living in the Chicago area – a perfect person to post on what is a cold, snowy day here at my house. It’s also a great day for some LOLs. Thanks Sarah! For the last 15 years I have sifted through resume after resume looking for awesomesauce candidates to join my the various organizations I have worked for. The way applicants … Read entire article »

Easter Craft: Tin Foil Easter Egg
This post is from Deirdre at JDaniel4’s Mom. She is truly one of the sweetest bloggers I have ever met and is well known for her adorable crafts and incredibly creative lunches. I am so excited about guest posting here on Instead of the Dishes. I met Fawn last spring at the Type A Conference. We had both volunteered to help at the conference. I had the best time talking about blogging and hearing about her … Read entire article »

I met Carrie because she invited me to speak at the Arkansas Women in Agriculture conference one year. (Gosh, that seems odd to say.) I hope that her story will cause you to take a moment’s pause and think about how you can use your own special skill set to invoke change in your corner of the world. One of my favorite quotes is, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” ~Margaret Mead That quote has echoed in my mind over and over again over the last few years. While we may not be changing the entire world, my hope … Read entire article »

March: Rolling out the Welcome Mat
My friends, this may be the longest I have ever gone between blog posts. February has been wild and crazy, what with preparing to open up Little Grins Dental and all. And while I haven’t been able actually type at the keyboard much, I have been blogging and plotting in my head for these past three weeks like nobody’s business. While February has been an lonely and desolate time here at Instead of the Dishes, I … Read entire article »

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
This year we took the kids on the Polar Express train, which they absolutely loved. In keeping with that theme, our wish for you is that the sound of the Christmas spirit rings clearly in your heart this year, and for all the years to come. May your New Year be filled with great friends and good fortune, and here’s to trains that run wildly, wonderfully off track, behind schedule, and along routes with many, … Read entire article »
