Jennifer McHam Photography

As a writer-type, I sometimes revolt against the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words”.  Unless the picture goes something like this:   My kids are ornery, and a bit lot hammy, so it’s hard to get good pictures of them.  Especially when they are around someone new and are trying to show off.  But, somehow, photographer Jennifer McHam manages to capture the exuberant personalities that my kiddos usually save for when the camera is out of sight. In addition to her talent, the other thing that I love about Jennifer is the way she does her photo shoots and pricing.  In this one hour photo shoot, Jennifer took photos of us as a family, then she took each kiddo off on their own while we stayed with the other child, and … Read entire article »

It’s Spring. Time to make the Veggies!

It’s Spring. Time to make the Veggies!

Although temps have gotten down right chilly over the past few days, there are still plenty of signs that Spring is in full swing right outside our window. Craig and the kids get all the credit for our front flower bed.  Meanwhile, mother nature has been at work too.  The trees are budding and blooming, the birds are singing, and the rains are keeping the creek babbling happily.  The woods behind the house are turning green … Read entire article »

5 Things I Like

5 Things I Like

Here are some things that I have been impressed with as of late: Book: The Green Parent by Jenn Savedge – I have given a couple presentations on “going green” this year, and in the process of doing research, I’ve decided that this is my favorite greening guide book.  Not to say that I’ve read all of them, but this one is great. It’s straight-forward, easy to understand, broken up into easily digested sections, and most … Read entire article »

Triathlon Training Tool: Go! Running

As you might recall, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to complete  a triathlon this summer.  I’ve begun training, and have a couple potential races picked out, but I’ve been extremely underwhelmed by the presence of a triathlete “community” in Arkansas.  Luckily, I have found one great resource: Go! Running, a new local running store here in Little Rock. I was surprised when I stopped in at Go! Running several weeks ago for a look-around. I found one corner of the store stocked with triathlon apparel, and tri racing shoes winked at me from the middle of the well-stocked shoe wall. Turns out that the owners, Gary and Erin Taylor, are both phenomenal runners who ran at the collegiate level for University of Arkansas.  Gary is a certified USA Triathlon … Read entire article »

Free Range Kids: Part 1

My friend Nicole is leading a book discussion at MOMcation at the end of this month.  The book she picked is called Free-Range Kids by Lenore Skenazy.  I wanted to write this post after I had read just the first couple chapters, but I can’t stop reading the book long enough to write the post! The basic premise of Free-Range Kids is that we, as Americans, have been trained into a culture of fear, especially when it comes to our children.  Skenazy addresses issues such as crimes against children, the influx of safety products on the market, and the pressure on parents to raise an army of baby geniuses with a frankness and wit that is fun to read and easy to understand.  She bases her discussions on statistics such as … Read entire article »

It’s Time for Some Entertainment

It’s Time for Some Entertainment

If you like to eat out, shop, or travel (who doesn’t like at least ONE of those things?)  then it’s time to get your copy of the 2012 Entertainment Book. The Entertainment Book contains over 400 coupons, many of which are BOGO for restaurant entrees, specifically for your local city or region.  I picked up my 2012 Entertainment Books last week, and was happy to find that there are $65 in Kroger coupons again this … Read entire article »
