Disney Cruise Day 3: Castaway Cay

Disney Cruise Day 3: Castaway Cay

I’m a lover of beaches, and Castaway Cay is one of my favorite places in the world. Albeit a severely manufactured beach, it’s still a great place to make family memories.  Disney’s own private island, Castaway’s beach (featuring imported sand) is surrounded by a (man-made) break that makes swimming very kid-friendly. Since our last visit, two large water slides called Pelican Plunge (must be 38″ tall to slide) have been added, as well as Spring … Read entire article »

Road Trip with Young Kids: Slow Travel

While I was away at the Savvy Blogging Summit, My husband, Craig, decided to take the kids to see their Great Grandma, who lives four states away. Disney Cruise Day 2: Hollywood Studios and DCL Port

When we returned to our room on day 1, we had a letter from Disney Cruise Lines (DCL) saying that a motor coach would depart at 12 noon to take us to the DCL terminal in Port Canaveral. So, with a free morning and that wonderful two day park hopper pass burning a hole in our pockets, we decided to head for Hollywood Studios, which opened early at 8am. We just left all our luggage on the bed in our room, where it was magically whisked away to our cabin on board the Disney Magic. Hollywood Studios is literally five minutes from Pop Century via the Disney bus system. So, we arrived at the park just as it opened and made a bee line for the Toy Story Mania! ride. We noticed … Read entire article »

Disney Cruise Day 1: Travel and Magic Kingdom

Disney Cruise Day 1: Travel and Magic Kingdom

When we booked our cruise through Disney, we were a little nervous about booking our flights as part of the package because we knew we would not be able to pick out our own flights (control freaks over here!). However, at 45 days out, we were happy to find that our flights were scheduled pretty much as we would have done for ourselves. We had decided to fly into Orlando a day early to avoid … Read entire article »

Cruising with Disney

At the end of May, we took our most epic family vacation ever, a 14 day transatlantic cruise on the Disney Magic.  We planned, booked, and saved for our trip nearly a year in advance.  In that time, we’ve gotten lots of questions about the cruising with Disney.  So, I’ve decided to do a series of posts about our trip.  Below is a post that Craig wrote and originally posted on another blog last summer about planning our trip. In January of 2010, we took advantage of the “Kids Sail Free” program and went on a 4-night Bahamas cruise on the Disney Wonder (2nd oldest DCL ship) with two young kids (3 year girl and 2 year old boy).  As soon as that cruise ended, I started looking into our … Read entire article »
