#AWBU Swag {giveaway}

June 9-11 marked the first ever Arkansas Women Bloggers Unplugged (AWBU) mini-conference at Ozark Natural Science Center. As one of the event planners, it would be easy for me to write about what a great weekend it was for networking, learning, and relaxing.  But, I’ll leave that up to some of the other fantastic women who attended and blogged about their experience. I will say that the swag bags at this relatively small event rivaled any swag I’ve received at conferences ten times the size of this one.   I’ve heard that blogger swag is always fantastic, and NWAFoodie, aka Lyndi Fultz, did an incredible job packing our swag bags full of fun and useful stuff. So I snagged an extra swag bag to give away to one of you!  The winner … Read entire article »

Here, Home, Hope {Book Review}

I managed to squeeze in some reading on my recent vacation. One of the books that I read was Here, Home, Hope by Kaira Rouda. This was an advance reader’s provided by One2One Network to facilitate my review, but the book hits stands this month. The billing reads, “Desperate Housewives meets The Middle Place in this absorbing, witty story about a suburban mother’s journey from a midlife crisis to reinvention with the help of her husband, friends, and neighbors.” “Kelly Mills Johnson becomes restless in her thirty-ninth Year. An appetite for more forces her to take stock of her ordinary middle-American existence and her neighbors’ seemingly perfect lives. Her marriage to a successful attorney has settled into a comfortable routine, and being the mother of two adorable sons has been rewarding … Read entire article »

Tweet Me a Story

My January writing submission was an entry in to NYC Midnight’s Tweet Me a Story Contest.  It’s been exciting, and a very fun writing project.  Here’s how it went: In the first round, there were 1000 participants, divided up into 20 groups of 50 writers.   Each writer was charged with creating up to 3 stories containing an assigned word.  The catch?  Each story had to be 140 characters or less, and you only had 5 hours to write and submit. I was in group 8, with the word “Journey”. Here are the stories that I submitted: Reading the manual of her Dodge Journey, a sinking feeling set in as water trickled through the vents: “Airbags do not provide buoyancy.” 3 days into the journey: she had killed 2, mangled 1, and left … Read entire article »

For the Love of the (picture of the) Couch

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ve already read my essay about how I love my couch.  In January, Little Rock Family printed that essay in their “Family Chatter” section, accompanied by the art above.  While I wish I had put a little more polish on the essay, I am madly in love with this image.  I’ve never met Hannah Alexander, but somehow she looked into my mind’s eye and drew it.  … Read entire article »

Arkansas Women Bloggers Meetup – a success!

Last Sunday, the Arkansas Women Bloggers had our first meetup.  It was a great event that I’m sure will lead to many more blogger get-togethers around the state. The entire two hours was filled to the brim with meeting, eating, and learning about blogging. I also got to recap the event as a guest blogger over at the Museum of Discovery’s Blog, if you want to hear more about this blog-tastic event. … Read entire article »
