Motherhood: A Day in The Life #1 – Karen

This Is My Life

It’s 5:15am and the rooster is crowing at me that it is time to get up. Thankfully this rooster is on my phone and comes with a handy dandy snooze button.  But when he starts back up ten minutes later, I roll out of bed and start my day.

Hi, I’m Karen.  I’m a wife to Hubby.  I’m a mom to Ting (age 3.5), and Bug (11 months).  I’m a full-time working girl.  And my day runs on a schedule – a tight schedule.

I’m in the shower by 5:40 each morning and have to be out of our one and only bathroom by 6 so Hubby can get in.

I eat breakfast, make school lunches, and spend a few minutes catching up on the overnight Twitter news until about 6:15.  That’s when Ting’s alarm goes off, and she is up and in our bathroom.  Bug is usually awake by now and looking for his bottle.

By 6:30 I’m back in the bathroom for hair and makeup. Hubby is out the door by 6:40, he doesn’t do much, the thing that takes up most of his time is his beard, but brushing your beard get easier with practice.  I help Ting with her school uniform and fix her hair.  I get Bug dressed, and I get myself dressed.  I grab a pop-tart and some chocolate milk for Ting, and get me and the kids in the van by 6:50.  We’re on the road.

We are very fortunate that our church has a private Christian school.  My father-in-law is the principal.  My mother-in-law, and several other members of Hubby’s family are the teachers.  We are thankful that they allow our kids to spend their days there, surrounded by family and getting a Christian education.  The downfall? It’s 40 miles away.  But I have an amazing mother-in-law.  She meets me half-way each morning and each afternoon to swap out kids.

By 8:00am I’ve made the kid-drop and I’m in my office.  I work full-time as the Marketing Director and Medical Staff Coordinator at our local hospital.  My job also consists of a million things that have nothing to do with either of those titles.  When you work in a small hospital, you wear many many many many hats.

Karen at Work

I get a 30 minute lunch.  Most days, I spend my lunch break in scheduled meetings.  On the days I have that time for myself, I head to the post office, run errands in town, or head home to get a headstart caught up on laundry, dishes, or just picking up the house.

It’s 4:30pm and I’m off work and back on the road.  I meet my mother-in-law around 5:00, spend a few minutes getting caught up on my kids’ day, and then head home.  We usually pull in the driveway around 5:30.  Sometimes Hubby beats us home, sometimes he’s not far behind.  He helps entertain kids while I cook supper.

We sit down at the table and have supper as a family six nights a week.  We tell about our day and just have general conversation.  By 6:30 we usually are done with supper and have the kitchen cleaned up and hang out in the living room playing.  Both the kids bring toys, they both like to wrestle, or we all just hang out.

Ting and Bug

Bath time starts at 7:30 each night.  Ting goes first, then Bug gets his while Ting gets her pajamas on.  Both kids go to bed as close to 8:00 as possible.  The real work begins.

I try to do at least one load of laundry each night.  I write my blog post for the day, and spend some time catching up on online news sites, email, and my favorite social media sites.  The Hubby and I have a couple TV shows that we like so we catch up on those as well.

The Hubby and I try to get to bed each night at 9:30, but by 10:00 at the latest.  All this starts over tomorrow!

Ting's Mom - Karen WeidoKaren lives in South Arkansas and writes about her family at Ting’s Mom Blog.  She is a social media addict and can be found on Twitter pretty much any time of the day.

Karen, that is one booked day! Thanks for sharing how you do it all!

  3. I’m exhausted just reading that schedule!

That is so awesome about the Christian school. I went to school 1-12 in Christian schools. It’s one of the best things my parents ever did for me!

Glad I hopped on over, I’m just now checking my Bloglovin feed for the week. Whoops!
