Free Fun For Families: February 5-12

Sunday, February 5 Eagle Tour @ Lake Dardanelle State Park, 10:00am
Lake Dardanelle State Park is proud to offer free winter lake cruises for the best chance of seeing our national symbol, the American bald eagle. Many other spectacular birds may also be in the area for viewing including American white pelicans, ducks, and snow geese. Please dress warmly as temperatures and winds can be more severe on the lake. Call the visitor center at (479) 967-5516  to reserve your seat. We will begin boarding 15 minutes before the tour, at the boat dock near the Fishing Tournament Weigh-In Facility. Also, in case of inclement weather, call 1 hour before tour time for possible cancellations.

Thursday, February 9Valentine’s Party @ CALS Main Library Branch, 6:30pm
The library asks kids to be its book-loving valentine at this party for all ages.

Saturday, February 11Woodpecker Hike @ Pinnacle Mountain State Park, 10:00am-11am
Meeting place: Kingfisher Trail Entrance. The Big and Little Maumelle Rivers are the perfect places to find woodpeckers. Discover why these areas are so beneficial to these birds before we take a hike on the Kingfisher Trail to go bird watching.

Saturday, February 11Family Fun Saturday @ Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, 1:30pm
Kids learn prominent stories from African-American history during this wild and wacky show that features both the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and magic tricks from Tommy Terrific.

Saturday, February 11Valentine Tea @ Roosevelt Thompson Library, 2:00pm
Children (ages 3-10) don party duds and celebrate the heart-filled holiday with stories, games, a craft and—of course—sugary sweets!

Saturday, February 11Lil’ Wild Ones @ Witt Stephens Jr. Nature Center, 2:00pm
This class for kids ages 4-8 is held on the second Saturday of each month through the school year. Kids will explore the wildlife and habitats in Arkansas through hands-on activities.

Sunday, February 19Geology Hike @ Pinnacle Mountain State Park, 9:00am – 11:00am
Meeting place: Visitor Center. Part of the charm of Pinnacle Mountain State Park is the diverse geology found here, and there is no better place to see this than on the Rocky Valley Trail. Meet a park interpreter at the visitor center today to hike this trail and discover the unique geological characteristics of Pinnacle Mountain State Park. This is a moderately strenuos hike, so wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.
